The Kohawks took a 4-0 lead in the first two minutes, but Wes Nordquist led a 16-7 run for Buena Vista over the next 4:59 to give the Beavers a 16-11 lead with 13:01 left in the first half.  Coe took over in the paint from that point forward, as they scored 13 unanswered points, all coming from Coe's post players, to take a 24-16 lead with 5:31 left in the half.  Junior Kevin Gaster (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Jefferson) hit a 3-pointer with :43 left in the half, as Coe took a 34-20 lead into the locker rooms.
Buena Vista cut Coe's lead to 15 with 16:04 to go on a basket-and-free throw from Joe Bohan, but the Kohawks used a 12-1 run over the next 4:30 to extend their lead to 26 with 11:09 to play.
The Beavers were held without a field goal in the final 4:45, as Coe went on a 14-4 run in that stretch to close the game.  Coe outscored Buena Vista 26-12 in the point and scored 23 points off 19 turnovers, while the Beavers scored just four points off 10 Kohawk turnovers.  Coe shot 52 percent (28-of-54), while holding the Beavers to 34 percent shooting (14-of-41).
Gaster led three Kohawks in double-figures with a game-high 15 points.  He also tied a career-high with three steals.  Sophomore Seth Light (Carlisle, Iowa/Carlisle) dropped in 14 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and a career-high four steals.  Senior Dan Borngraeber (Brookfield, Wis./East) joined Gaster and Light in double-figures with 10 points, as he became the 50th player in school history with 600 career points.
Senior Alex Tatman (Humboldt, Iowa/Humboldt) and sophomore David Mataloni (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) added eight points apiece.  Senior Dan Onorato (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) had five rebounds, while sophomore Garrett Cross (Spring Grove, Minn./Spring Grove) had a game-high three assists.
The Kohawks will return to action on Wednesday, as they travel to league-leading Luther.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Decorah.
