HAMBURG, NY - A hot shooting night from all areas of the floor led the Medaille men's basketball team to their seventh straight victory, as they outlasted Hilbert College (92-83) in an AMCC road victory over the Hawks. Sophomore Jammal Coleman continued to shine as he poured in (27) points in the win.
The game was a tight affair that saw ten ties and eleven lead changes but the Mavs would prove to be too hot from the floor for the Hawks to handle. The Mavs shot (53.1%) from the floor but were more impressive from beyond the arc (56.3%) and from the free throw line (79.5%). The charity stripe would be a huge key in the win for the Mavs as they connected on (31 of 39) attempts while Hilbert was (18 for 30).
For the sixth straight game the Mavs were led by Coleman in the scoring column as he has averaged (22.5) points per game over that span. On the night he was (7 for 13) from the floor, however, his biggest impact may have come from the free throw line as he connected on (12 of 15) attempts. He also matched a game high with (10) rebounds while chipping in with (3) assists and a pair of steals to wrap up a spectacular night.
Sophomore Alex Baron was very efficient en route to a (15) point and (6) rebound effort. He was (4 for 5) from the floor and (7 for 8) from the free throw line. Meanwhile, seniors Josh Laureano (14) points - (5) assists and Tyler Stevens (11) points (3 of 4) from three point range, played critical roles in the win.
Coming off the bench to chip in with some crucial buckets was Ryan Grandits who was (2 for 2) overall, (1 for 1) from long range and (3 for 5) from the line, down the stretch as the Mavs closed out the victory.
The win improves the Mavs to (12-6) overall and they keep pace in the AMCC standings, as they are tied with Penn State-Behrend for first place heading into a big showdown with La Roche College on Saturday (1/26) at 3:00pm.
