Thomas More Falls, 88-79, in Overtime at Saint Vincent

(LATROBE, Pa.) - The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 88-79, in overtime to Saint Vincent College today (Saturday, February 16, 2013) in its regular season finale at the Carey Center in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 21-4 overall and 14-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).  Thomas More will be the No. 2 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament.  With the win, the Bearcats improve to 20-5 overall and 15-1 in the PAC and will be the top-seed in the PAC Tournament.

Thomas More raced out to an 8-2 early lead when junior small forward Brandon Housley (Covington, Ky./Holmes) made a lay-up with 16:16 to play in the first half.  Saint Vincent answered with a 19-9 run to take a 21-17 when Edmond Wright made two free-throws with 6:24 to play in the opening half.  The Saints responded with a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 23-22 with 5:02 to play in the game first half when senior shooting guard Ethan King (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) made a jumper.  The Bearcats closed the half on a 16-9 to take a 39-31 lead at halftime.

Saint Vincent opened the second half on an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 47-31 on an Issac Turner jumper with 17:51 to play in the game.  Thomas More closed out the second half on a 40-24 run to force overtime at 71-71 when junior point guard D'Carlo Hayes (Louisville, Ky./Male) made two free-throws with seven-seconds to play in the game.

Overtime was all Saint Vincent as it out-scored Thomas More, 17-8, for the 88-79 victory.

Hayes led the team in scoring with a career-high 29 points, while sophomore shooting guard Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) added 12 points.  Housley led the team on the boards with seven rebounds and steals with three.

Thomas More will open PAC Tournament play on Tuesday (February 19) when it hosts the seventh-seed in a 7:30 p.m. quarterfinal game at the Connor Convocation Center.  The seeded for the PAC Tournament will be announced later tonight on the PAC website (www.pacathletics.org)
