Six Players Represent Bulldog Men’s Basketball on NABC Honors Court

It was announced on Wednesday that six University of Redlands men's basketball players landed on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) 2012-13 Honors Court for their academic success.  Senior forwardJosiah Brensdal (Kent, WA), senior guard Tristan Kirk (Redlands, CA), senior guard Brian Kuklok (Poway, CA), junior forward Eric Radford(Federal Way, WA), junior guard Matt Calhoun (Clackamas, OR), and junior guard Robby Turk (Aurora, CO) all represented the Bulldogs as recipients of the illustrious award.

The NABC recognized more than 700 student-athletes from 285 Colleges and Universities from across the country for the 2012-13 season.  In order to join the Honors Court, varsity student-athletes must be academically a junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher after at least one year at their current institution.

Brensdal, an accounting major, experienced a phenomenal final season with the Maroon and Gray by racking up numerous accolades, including the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Player of the Year, and NABC and D3hoops.com All-West Region awards.  Amidst a well-balanced offense, he led the Bulldogs with a scoring average of 13 points while shooting 51.4% for the season.  He also notched a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game.

Kirk closed out his remarkable four-year career with a degree in government after collecting First-Team All-SCIAC accolades.  He also became one of 18 players in program history to score more than 1,000 points during his career.  During the 2012-13 campaign, he averaged 12.6 points per contest while dishing out a team-best 4.5 assists.

While completing his degree in Biology, Kuklok experienced yet another fantastic season with Redlands, averaging 10.6 points per game to go along with 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists.  He also shot a phenomenal 85.9% from the charity stripe for the year while starting in every game for the U of R.

Radford, a Global Business major, played an important role in the Bulldogs' success this year.  While nailing 54.6% of his field-goal attempts on the season, he also shot an incredible 44.3% from downtown.  Radford averaged 8.2 points per game and averaged 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

While also studying Global Business, Calhoun enjoyed his best season of his Bulldog career by averaging 8.2 points per game, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists.  A starter in every game for Redlands, Calhoun also racked up an impressive 1.0 steals per contest.

Turk, who continues work towards hi Biology degree, played an important role off the bench for the Bulldogs and contributed in many non-statistical categories.  While playing in 10 contests, his biggest output of the season came against Pacifica College in a 119-88 win that saw him score four points on a 2-for-5 shooting effort.

All six players played an integral role in the success of the Redlands team that went 22-6 overall with a 15-1 mark in the SCIAC.  After capturing the conference regular-season championship, the U of R punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament by winning the SCIAC Postseason Tournament title.
