Newburgh, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team suffered an 87-79 setback on the road against the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College (NY) on Saturday Afternoon at the Kaplan Center.

With the loss, BC drops to 1-2 overall on the season, while Mt. St. Mary improves to an even 2-2 overall on the year with the win.

The Knights hit 10 three-pointers (eight in the first half) in the game to propel them to the win, as the home team never trailed in the game, shooting 47.3% (26-55) from the field and 41.7% (10-24) from three. Mount Saint Mary also shot an efficient 83.3% (25-30) from the free throw line.

Mt. St. Mary's hot shooting hand helped the Knights build a 15-point advantage in the first half, 37-22, their largest of the game, with 5:28 left before the halftime break. The Bulldogs would not go down lightly, as BC would get to within two, 40-38, following a layup from junior Valon Djombalic, at the 1:29 mark of the opening period. Djombalic finished the game with eight points and five rebounds. However, the Knights would close out the first half scoring the final five points to take a seven point halftime lead, 45-38.

Brooklyn opened the second half scoring the first four points to get back to within three, 45-42; however, the Knights answered with a quick 6-0 run to go ahead by nine, 51-42, with 16:57 left in the game.  BC would once again fight back to cut its deficit to one, 52-51, on a layup from junior Jai Kellman at the 13:53 mark. However, the Knights would again keep the Bulldogs at arm's length scoring the next six points to go up, 58-51. Brooklyn would be unable to get over the hump, as Mount Saint Mary would eventually go on to take home the 87-79 win.

The Bulldogs shot 38.5% (30-78) from the field and just 25.0% (3-12) from three. BC also shot 76.2% (16-21) from the free throw line. Brooklyn also scored 37 points off of 18 turnovers, outscored the Knights 52-30 in the paint and scored 23 second chance points from 26 offensive rebounds, but it was not enough to overcome Mount Saint Mary's shooting performance.

Kellman led BC with a team-high 19 points, to go with seven rebounds and four steals. Junior Edon Gjonbalajadded 15 points and six rebounds coming off the bench, while his brother sophomore Egzon Gjonbalaj finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Junior Justin Staton grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, to go with six points. Sophomore Jamel Gist dished out five assists to go with nine points, while redshirt freshman Harry Hazandropped eight points coming off the bench.

Brooklyn won the battle of the glass 46-34.
