William Paterson Men’s Basketball Returns from Break with 86-75 Victory

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Junior guard Sandy Burgos (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) and senior guard Javae King-Gilchrist (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) each exceeded the 20-point plateau as the William Paterson men's basketball team (9-2) returned from an 18-day break with an 86-75 victory at Skidmore (6-3) Jan. 4.

 

Burgos was 6-for-9 (.667) from three-point range en route to scoring a game-best 27 points, while King-Gilchrist posted 21 tallies, a team-high 10 rebounds and a game-best six assists. Junior guard Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) had 13 points and eight boards, and freshman guard Zach Frick (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) contributed 11 tallies from off the bench.

 

The Pioneers finished the first half with a 10-3 run to create a 44-31 halftime advantage, and that lead grew to 20 (60-40) less than eight minutes into the second period.

 

William Paterson had just seven turnovers during the contest, and limited the Thoroughbreds to 38.7 (24-62) percent shooting overall and 18.2 (4-22) percent shooting from three-point range.

 

Erik Sanders paced Skidmore with 26 points, and Aldin Medunjanin finished with 21 tallies and 10 rebounds.

 

William Paterson will play at Kean Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 8:00 p.m.
