Ripon's men's basketball team got off to a great start to the conference season with a pair of wins over the weekend, thanks in large part to the play of Senior guard Cal Schultz. Monday, Schultz was rewarded for his outstanding play, as he earned the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week Award, as released by the conference office.
Schultz scored a game-high 30 points in both of Ripon's games last week, shooting 71 percent (22-31) from the field and 64 percent (9-14) from 3-point range, while also converting 70 percent (7-10) of his free throws. In addition to his 30 points per game, Schultz averaged six rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game in the wins against Knox and Illinois College.
A Business Management and Sports Management major from Muskego, Wis., Schultz currently ranks second in the MWC in scoring (24.0 ppg), while leading the league in field goal percentage (.683), and ranking second in 3-point shooting (.652). He is also fourth in the MWC in steals (1.6 spg) and 13th in rebounding (5.8 rpg).
