Benedictine Men Drop Opener to Rockford

LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's basketball team dropped the first of a key weekend double against Rockford University.

Benedictine played from behind for most of the contest
Rockford embarked on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good at 14-8 with 12:55 left in the opening half
The visitors used a 12-0 run to take a double-digit lead at 28-14 with just over five minutes remaining in the half
Benedictine closed the first half on a 7-0 run to pull within 34-29 on back-to-back threes from Nick Kosich and Cade Ellingson
The visitors quickly stretched the lead to double figures again early in the second half
Benedictine has been coming from behind regularly and pulled within four points at 49-45 on another Ellingson three with 13:38 to play
Rockford, who took over sole possession of first in the South Division with the win, again pushed the margin to 12 points at 68-56 with just over six minutes left
Benedictine clawed within four points with 2:38 to go but missed three consecutive threes

Benedictine shot a season low 32.9 percent from the field while Rockford held a 43-39 edge on the glass
Trevor Montiel finished with a career high 17 points with Ellingson notching a career high 16
Marvin Agwomoh notched a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds
