Pioneer men's basketball team comes up short at Ripon

RIPON, Wis. - Grinnell College's men's basketball team got in a quick hole and was forced to play catch-up the rest of the way in a 102-85 setback at Ripon College Saturday afternoon.

Grinnell trailed 19-6 through the first nine minutes of the opening half and still trailed by 10 with 33 seconds left before Kai Te Huki '27 nailed a 3-pointer and Harris Dar '28 hit a layup to bring the Pioneers within 51-45 at intermission.

Tolu Johnson '25 scored to start the second half to make it a three-point game, but Ripon pulled away. It was a 71-64 margin with 12:50 to go before the Pioneers caught fire, as Mitch Priest '25 sank a trey and Te Huki two free throws and a jumper to tie the contest at 71-all with 11:08 remaining.

However, Ripon answered with a nine-point run and pulled away from there for the win.

Te Huki had a huge game for Grinnell, going 10-of-21 from 3-point land while finishing with 35 points. He now ranks 20th in GC history with 196 treys. Dar was also in double-digit scoring with 11 points, while Johnson grabbed 10 rebounds to grab the program's No. 19 spot with 426 boards. Dar distributed four assists and Johnson came up with two steals. 

Grinnell travels to Galesburg, Ill., on Tuesday to face Knox College. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
