WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (2-0) secured a 71-55 home victory over York (N.Y.) (0-2) Nov. 12 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Josiah Carey knocked down a jumper with 11:36 on the clock in the first half to spark a 19-8 WP run that put the Pioneers ahead by double figures (33-20). Seven different Pioneers got into the scoring column as WP shot 8-of-15 (.533) over a stretch of 8:38.
- The Pioneers extended their advantage in the second half, opening the new stanza on a 22-9 run. WP went 8-of-11 (.727) from the floor during the run that lasted until the 11:11 mark.
- York outscored WP in the closing 10 minutes of action, but the double-digit lead proved to be insurmountable and the Pioneers earned the 71-55 home win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Pioneers opened the season with back-to-back wins for the second consecutive year.
- Sophomore Jack Gobel shot 7-of-13 (.538) from the floor for an 18-point performance with three rebounds and three steals.
- Senior Ethan Paul logged 13 points on 5-of-8 (.625) shooting to pair with four rebounds.
- Sophomore Delani Hyde posted a nine-point outing.
- Senior Cam Reyes tallied six points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists.
- Junior Fred Orock Jr. recorded a team-high eight boards, adding six points, three blocks, two assists and a steal to his stat line.
