Redlands Men's Basketball wins home opener over Pacific (Ore.)

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's basketball team (3-0) ended up blowing out Pacific University (Oregon) 108-80 thanks to a plus 20-point second half in their home opener inside Currier Gymnasium.

Lucas Gordon made a three off a Chozen Amadi assist and Jake Hlywiak scored in the first 90 seconds for an early 5-2 lead as the Bulldogs never trailed in the game.

Their first 10-point lead came at the 16:03 mark when Donovan Ware found Nathan Mattera for a fastbreak three. The lead grew to as many as 15, 37-22, with 9:01 to play off another Gordan jumper.

Just two minutes later, though, the Boxers finished off a 13-4 run that got them within two possessions, 41-35. Then with the lead down to four, 52-48, Jhace Boston got into the paint and scored and Mattera converted on a pair of free throws for a 56-48 halftime lead.

An 11-3 run in the opening three minutes of the second half extended the lead to 16, 67-51. Gordon had five points, Cam Brown four, and Derek Sangster had two.

Redlands maintained that double-digit lead the remainder of the game as they stayed undefeated through three games.

Gordon had a big night with 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting and nine rebounds. Boston quietly had 18 points and five rebounds in only 19 minutes. Omari Ferguson, Hlywiak, Sangster, and Brown also scored in double figures.

Redlands hosts Schreiner University tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
