REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's basketball team (5-0) stayed perfect on the season as they never trailed in their 117-78 win over Willamette University Friday evening inside Currier Gymnasium.
Lucas Gordon opened the scoring on a fastbreak layup after he picked up a steal 60 seconds after winning the opening tip for the Bulldogs.
Jhace Boston made a pair of free throws just over four minutes into the game as he gave Redlands their first double-digit lead, 12-2.
Those two points were a part of a 20-0 run that made it 22-2 Bulldogs with 13:31 on the clock. During the run Derek Sangster had seven points, Jake Hlywiak five, and both Omari Ferguson and Logan Dorsey had three each.
Nathan Mattera gave the Bulldogs their largest lead of the first half on a fastbreak layup with 38 seconds remaining as Redlands went into the break up 34, 59-25.
Redlands led by 30 plus the entire second half until a Bearcat layup after a Bulldog turnover made it a 29-point game with 4:29 to play.
Yah Humphrey, though, got the points back on the next possession as he got into the paint for the easy two. Jaiden Agbo then made a three, Dorsey converted his free throws, and Evan Lucas made a three on the fastbreak during a 10-0 Bulldog run.
Over the final two minutes Christian Trusclair and Agbo each scored to close out another 100-point scoring game.
After an exhibition at Cal Poly, the Bulldogs travel to Orange where they play Chapman University on December 3 at 7 p.m. in their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game of the season.
