WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (6-8, 1-6 NJAC) couldn't overcome visiting New Jersey City (10-4, 6-1 NJAC) Jan. 10, suffering a 75-58 loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Pioneers raced out to an 8-2 edge early (16:24), but the Gothic Knights scored six straight to knot the score at 8-8 with 13:01 on the clock. Later tied at 14-14 (11:11), NJCU scored 17 of the next 19 points to build a 31-16 edge at the 5:57 mark, and owned a 38-26 lead at the break.
- William Paterson made five of seven (.714) field goals to put together a 12-5 burst midway through the second half, cutting NJCU's lead to 51-40 with 12:10 to play. A Jack Gobel three-pointer later cut it to a 10-point margin (55-45, 9:43), but the Gothic Knights answered with an 11-5 burst during the next 4:33 to take control of the outcome.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Gobel was 8-for-17 (.471) overall and 6-for-8 (.750) from three-point range for a game-high 23 points.
- Sophomore forward Delani Hyde added eight tallies.
