SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England College women's basketball team improved its record to 7-1 by winning its seventh consecutive home game of the season with a 63-40 non-league victory over Mount Ida Thursday evening (Dec. 9) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
Sophomore guard Emily Savino (Ellington, CT) led the way with a game-high 14 points while sophomore center Elena Radzikowski (Medway, MA) also hit double figures with 10 points along with seven rebounds.
Senior forward Kelly McCormick (Manchester, CT) contributed eight points and 13 rebounds while senior guard Taryn Belowsky (New Haven, CT) chipped-in with six points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Western New England College held the Mustangs to only four field goals in the opening half in taking a 26-13 lead at the break.
Mount Ida (2-6) got within 36-24 with 14:27 remaining before the Golden Bears broke the game open with a 15-0 run.
Junior guard Shannon Wood (Gorham, ME) led the visitors with nine points and six rebounds. Junior guard Jeileen Rivera (Springfield, MA) added seven points and three steals.
Western New England College shot 42.3% from the field while Mount Ida managed to make only 20.3% of its field goal attempts. The Golden Bears had a commanding 53-32 edge off the boards.
