SALISBURY, Md. - Wesley College nearly erased an eight point deficit in the final 2:40, but Salisbury held on for a 49-46 win over the Wolverines.
Layups by Jazmine Miller (Dover, Del./Dover), Rachelle Allen (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) and Cory Boyd (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) cut it to 48-46 with 1:10 to go. After a miss by the Sea Gulls (5-9, 3-3 CAC), Wesley (7-7, 2-3 CAC) got the rebound but could not convert and turned it over after an offensive rebound.
After Katie McGahagan made one free throw with six seconds left, Salisbury, who had not reached the limit, fouled the Wolverines twice to help run out the clock for the win.
Miller turned in a strong all-around effort with 14 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals. It was her second double-double of the year.
Angie Owens (Seaford, Del./Seaford) was the only other Wolverine in double figures with 11 points. She also had eight rebounds, three steals and three blocks.
It was fitting for the Sea Gulls that McGahagan iced the game from the line. The guard hit 9-of-18 field goals for 21 points and had 13 rebounds.
Wesley leaned heavily on its starting five in the game. Despite using four bench players, the reserves combined for just 20 minutes of action.
The Wolverines had hit double figures in made threes in three straight games, but was held without a three point field goal in the game.
