Blazer Women Fall to Johns Hopkins in Season Opener, 71-35

BALTIMORE, Md.--The Hood College women's basketball team (0-1) dropped a 71-35 decision to the Johns Hopkins University (2-0) in its opening round matchup of the JHU Durgala Memorial Women's Basketball Tournament Saturday afternoon.

Hood was only able to connect on two field goals over the first 12:28 of the opening stanza as the Blue Jays built a 26-5 lead. Hopkins owned a 41-11 advantage at halftime.

Hood fared better in the second half, tallying 24 points to JHU's 30. In fact, four of Hood's seven second-half field goals came from long range.

Dyanna Prater paced the Blazers with 10 points while Briana Lee netted eight points, including a pair of treys. Heather Boyce finished with six points on a pair of triples while Kelsey Knippenberg and Emily Maerz chipped in four points apiece.

The Blazers will now face Averett University in the consolation final Sunday at 1 p.m.
