MAHWAH, N.J. (December 8, 2011) – The Centenary women's team dropped an independent game, 85-54 to Ramapo College moving the Cyclones record to 5-3 on the season.
Centenary, coming off Tuesday's thriller versus Marywood, struggled to keep Ramapo's offense at bay as the Roadrunners benefitted from 4-6 shooting from three point range in the first half, helping to build a 45-27 heading into the half.
The Cyclones, led by senior Hannah Ally (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) who finished with 12 points and seven rebounds could not keep pace with Ramapo's triple threat of Alexa Ryan, Jackie Jerkovich and Lindsey Gripenburg who all netted 14 or more points.
Shooting percentage was the difference as Ramapo out shot Centenary 49.2 percent to 34.5 percent. In addition to the Roadrunners three point precision, Ramapo shot over 57 percent from the field in the first half giving Centenary a hole too deep to climb out of.
Despite the difficulties scoring, the Cyclones continued to cause turnovers on defense. Seven different Cyclones recorded at least one steal with seniors Jen Vasta (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) and Colleen Collins (Colmar, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) each picking the ball twice from Ramapo. Along with the steals, Centenary forced 17 turnovers by the Roadrunners.
The Cyclones return to action on Saturday, Dec. 10 as they travel to Langhorne, Pa. to take on Philadelphia Biblical University at 2 pm.
