ALLIANCE, Ohio – No. 9 ranked Mount Union blasted Otterbein 76-50 in a matchup of Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball leaders Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders get a bit of redemption as Otterbein was only team to beat them so far this season – a 63-52 loss back in December. Mount Union is now 16-1 overall and in first place in the OAC with a 9-1 record in conference.
Senior guard Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) had 17 points, junior point guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) had 14 and senior forwardAmanda Rose (Green/Green) had 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds to lead Mount Union to its 19th straight home court victory.
Kristi Kotterman had 17 points as the only Otterbein (13-4, 7-3 OAC) in double figures as the Cardinals were held to their lowest scoring total of the season.
Mount Union jumped out to an 18-8 lead to start the game and Otterbein then scored seven of the next eight points to get back into the game and close the gap to 19-15 with six minutes left in the half.
The Raiders then hit the gas pedal as they scored 17 straight points and finished the first half on a 22-4 run to lead 41-19 at the break.
Mount Union never looked back extending the lead to as many 30 points on its way to the 26-point win.
The Raiders stay home and host John Carroll next Wednesday (Jan. 25) at 7:30 pm at the MAAC.
