BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team was defeated by Polytechnic University of New York University (NYU Poly) 60-53 on Monday evening.
The loss drops the Bloodhounds record to 2-4 overall this season.
The Bloodhounds were led by Jamecia Forsythe with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two assists and two blocks. Fellow teammate Danielle Eagan came off the bench and provided 12 points, including four three point field goals. Sherrice Marshall added a team-high 12 rebounds for John Jay.
NYU Poly was paced by Alyssa D'Apice with a game-high 27 points, while her teammate Shelby Bruns added a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Despite the loss, John Jay held an overwhelming 56-36 advantage in rebounding, including a 26-9 edge on the offensive end. John Jay shot 29.2 percent from the floor (21-for-72).
The host Blue Jays led from start to finish. NYU Poly opened the game on a 12-2 run and led by as much as 12 in the first half.
Early in the second half, John Jay cut the deficit to as little as four as the Bloodhounds trailed 35-31 with just under fifteen minutes remaining.
But the Blue Jays scored the next five points to go ahead by nine and NYU Poly kept John Jay at arm's length distance the rest of the way.
John Jay is back in action on Wed. Dec. 5 for a home game against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 5 p.m.
