Cortland Women Struggle Offensively in 47-34 Loss to Oswego

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Kassie Kleine made 5-of-6 three-pointers and finished with a game-high 15 points as Oswego defeated Cortland, 47-34, in a SUNYAC contest.

Evelyn Josbena led the Lakers (15-7, 9-6 SUNYAC) with 13 rebounds, seven assists, six blocked shots and six steals. Meagan Stover added seven points and eight rebounds and Kari Kipper finished with six points and eight rebounds.

Cortland (10-11, 8-7 SUNYAC) was led by freshman Caysea Cohen's (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) 11 points. Sophomore Brooke DeMarco (Grand Island) scored eight points and junior Megan Touhey (Maine/Maine-Endwell) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Oswego led 26-11 at halftime as the Red Dragons shot only 15 percent from the floor (4-of-27) in the opening half. Cortland finished the game at 23 percent, while Oswego shot 36 percent overall and 40 percent (8-of-20) from three-point range.

Cortland pulled within 11 at 28-17 on a DeMarco layup with 14:17 remaining. Oswego scored the next 11 points, including a Jenn Robbins three-pointer and two treys by Klein, and led 39-17 with 10:47 left. The Lakers' lead was at least 13 the rest of the contest.

Cortland will host SUNYAC leader New Paltz on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 6 p.m.
