Francess Henry scored a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the women's basketball team to a 75-61 home victory over rival Hunter College on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena.
The Bearcats controlled the action in the first half by scoring 15 points off 14 Hunter turnovers to cruise to the 38-23 lead at halftime. Henry scored 14 of her game-high 22 points in that first half by shooting 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
Hunter rallied to start the second half with a 17-6 run to cut the lead to 44-40 with 11:26 left.
The score was still close at 46-42 with 8:55 remaining, but the Bearcats responded by scoring the next nine points on a run that began with a baseline jumper by Symone Green.
They continued to build the lead to 18 points (67-49) after Henry's fifth 3-pointer of the evening with 2:47 left. That was enough to record the victory and begin their CUNYAC schedule on a winning note.
Alicea Ulmer scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Kristen Podlovits was a spark during the second half by scoring all eight of her points off the bench.
Hunter finished with 21 turnovers and shot 32 percent (20-of-57) from the field.
The women's basketball team will be in action during the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend with a 3:00 pm Sunday afternoon, December 1 contest at home in the ARC Arena against Rutgers-Newark from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).
