Cortland Women Start Quick, Finish With 13 Threes in Rout vs. Brockport

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Megan Touhey (Maine/Maine-Endwell) scored 19 points and Cortland made 13-of-21 shots from 3-point range as the Red Dragons cruised past Brockport, 78-48, in a SUNYAC contest.

Cortland (10-5, 6-2 SUNYAC) raced out to a 28-5 lead 11 minutes into the game, led 45-19 at halftime and had its advantage grow to as high as 41 points in the second half. The Red Dragons shot 67 percent in the first half (18-of-27), including 69 percent from the 3-point arc (9-of-13), and finished the game at 54 percent overall. Cortland's 13 made 3-pointers is two shy of tying a team single-game record.

Touhey hit 8-of-16 shots from the field, 2-of-3 from the arc, and grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore Caysea Cohen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) hit all three of her 3-pointers and finished with 13 points, five assists and three steals.

Junior Phoebe Byrnes (Binghamton), who played at Brockport the last two seasons, made 3-of-4 long-distance shots and scored nine points. Senior Grace Williamson (Olean) added seven points and five boards, junior Erin Wolstenholme (Oneonta) scored seven points and sophomore Shannon White (West Islip/St. Anthony's) recorded four assists. In all, 12 different Red Dragons reached the scoring column.

Hannah Rehbaum (Cheektowaga/Buffalo Acad. of the Sacred Heart) led Brockport (6-6, 2-3 SUNYAC) with 11 points and three assists. She made 3-of-8 from 3-point distance. Meg Stucko (Elba) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Brockport shot only 23 percent in the first half and 31 percent for the game.

Cortland will travel to Oneonta on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m.
