Sophomore guard Katie Stone scored 10 of her career-high 21 points during a game-closing 22-5 run as the host Tommies (22-4) rallied past Gustavus (14-12), 66-51, in Tuesday night's MIAC playoff first-round women's basketball game at Schoenecker Arena.

The No. 15-ranked and third-seeded Tommies sank 24-of-26 free throws on the game, including all 16 in the second half. That helped overcome 20 turnovers.

The Tommies advance to play in Thursday night's semifinal round at No. 2-seed Concordia-Moorhead (21-4). UST lost both regular-season games against the Cobbers. Last season, No. 2-seed UST defeated the top-seeded Cobbers in Moorhead in the playoff championship game.

Stone sank five treys and scored 18 of her 21 points in the second half for St. Thomas, now 11-1 at home this season. Taylor Young chipped in 15 points, Kelly Brandenburg added six rebounds, five assists and three steals, and Maggie Weiers had seven boards. UST used a 14-5 edge in bench points.

The Tommies, who shot 48 percent in the second half, had 19 turnovers in the first 28:00 but had only one in the final 12:00. They had a slight 34-31 edge in rebounds.

Stone's basket with 5:33 remaining erased the last Gustavus lead and started a 22-5 run. UST scored the game's final 10 points over the final 1:23.

Karina Schroeder had 13 points and six boards to lead the sixth-seeded Gusties. Julia Dysthe had 10 of her 12 points in the second half.

St. Thomas' seniors improve to 97-19 in their four-year era, including a 13-3 postseason record.
