(LATROBE, Pa.) – The No. 2-ranked Thomas More women's basketball team used a 27-2 second quarter to erase a two-point deficit tonight (Wednesday, January 30, 2019) and go onto post an 82-46 win over Saint Vincent College at the Carey Center in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The Saints improve to 24-0 and the Bearcats fall to 16-4.
FIRST HALF:
- Saint Vincent led 22-20 after one quarter.
- Thomas More opened the second quarter on a 24-0 and out-scored the Bearcats 27-2 in the quarter to build a 47-24 lead at halftime.
- The Saints shot 58.6 percent from the field (17-of-29) in the opening half, including 50.0 percent (six-of-12) from behind the three-point arc.
- Thomas More had a 14-5 advantage in points off turnovers and 9-3 in second chance points.
- Junior guard Kaela Saner (Florence, Ky./Boone County) led the team in scoring with 15 points.
- Senior guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) added 10 points.
- First-year guard Asyah Mitchell (Kenton County, Ky./Cooper) finished with seven points in the half.
- Sophomore guard Briana McNutt (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) led the team in assists in the opening half with three.
SECOND HALF:
- Thomas More extended the lead to 66-33 after three quarters and then cruised to the 82-46 victory.
- The Saints shot 45.1 percent (14-of-31) in the second half.
- Thomas More out-scored the Bearcats 24-10 in the paint.
- Temple led the team in scoring in the second half with 10 points.
- Junior forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) tallied nine points in the half.
- Mitchell added seven points in the half.
NOTABLES:
- Thomas More shot 51.7 percent (31-of-60) from the field in the game.
- The Saints controlled the paint, as they had a 40-12 advantage on points in the paint.
- Thomas More out-scored Saint Vincent 21-15 off turnovers and 15-8 in second chance points.
- Temple led all scorers with 20 points and had four rebounds and two assists.
- With her two assists, Temple has tied Devin Beasley (2010-2014) for the career assist record at Thomas More with 531 career assists.
- Saner finished the game with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals.
- Mitchell had 14 points.
- Schultz had 13 points and three rebounds.
- Senior forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) finished with seven rebounds and three blocks.
