NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - The Manchester University women's basketball team defeated the Rockford University Regents 61-52 on Saturday, November 19th.
The Spartans got off to a strong start during Saturday's contest, keeping their opponent to 19 points in the first half and going 10-10 in free throws during the second quarter. First-Year Maddi Smith (Kewanna, Ind., Caston) put-up her first collegiate career double-double against the Regents, scoring 19 points and pulling down 13 rebounds for the Black and Gold. Fellow First-Year Ally Graber (Mooresville, Ind., Mooresville) also scored in double-digits with 11 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Fifth-year Bridget Nash (Carmel, Ind., Bishop Chatard) led the Black and Gold with 4 steals on the day. As a team, the Spartans shot 30.6% from the field (15-49) and 80% from the free throw line (28-35)
Tyra Clark led the Regents with 24 points, 4 assist, and 6 rebounds, while Audrina Terhune chipped in 6 points and 3 steals for Rockford. As a team, Rockford finished the day with a 31.1 shooting percentage (19-61) and a 50% free throw percentage (10-20)
The MU women's basketball team will return to action on Saturday, November 16th as the Spartans head to Kalamazoo for a non-conference matchup against the Hornets. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
