LAS VEGAS – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (7-5) ended their 2024 portion of their schedule with a 64-53 win against Saint Vincent College at the D3hoops.com Classic Sunday afternoon at South Point Arena.
It was the Alex Facelo show in the first quarter as she had 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 mark from three as the Bulldogs converted on five threes and scored 27 points and held an 11-point lead after 10 minutes.
AJ Wick and Carly Hicks started the second quarter scoring with six combined points in the first 90 seconds. The Hicks basket at the 8:14 mark would be the final made field goal for three minutes until Colbi Zorich made a jumper after the Bearcats had gotten within nine.
Saint Vincent would go another run, this time making it a two-possession game, 38-32, with 1:39 left in the half. Redlands, though, got a layup in the paint off a Krista Karban assist and the fifth Facelo three to help them take a 43-33 lead into the break.
In the third quarter the Bulldogs were up by double figures for all but 20 seconds and led by as many as 17 when Leila Hosn found Facelo for another three with 3:53 on the clock, but the Bearcats ended the quarter on a 9-1 run and were only down by nine, 57-48, after 30 minutes.
Zorich and Kayden Sanders opened the fourth with five points and had Redlands up by 14 with 7:46 on the clock as the two teams would combine to score only 12 points after combining for at least 29 in the first three.
In the fourth the Bearcats scored only two points until they made a three with 65 seconds left in the game.
Zorich and Facelo each had 18 points and Wick grabbed 14 rebounds for her 10th double-digit rebound game this season. Facelo's 18 points came on six threes, tying her career-high and the seventh most in single-game program history.
Redlands will have a little more than a week off before they travel to the University of La Verne on January 8 with tipoff at 7:00 p.m.
