GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan won its first game of the season Tuesday evening over Delaware Valley in a 64-54 victory in the home opener here at Esby Gymnasium.
Natalia Barrera (17 points/10 rebounds) and Charlotte Carlies (13 points/10 rebounds) each registered double doubles with Jes Mastriano adding 10 points as the Profs (1-1) led by as much as 22 points in the third quarter.
Whitney Evans led the visiting Aggies (0-1) with 17 points while teammate Alexis Wright scored 15 points.
After holding Del Val to just 20% shooting in the first quarter, Rowan saw the Aggies start the second on an 9-2 run to get it to 17-16. The Profs responded with a spurt of its own, outscoring DVU, 17-6, to close out the half and take a 34-20 lead into halftime.
Carlies' bucket underneath gave Rowan a 42-20 edge with just under eight minutes in the third. Jazmin Abigail hit a tough contested three-pointer in the final seconds of the frame before Evans hit a short jumper for the visitors, making it a 16-point (54-38) contest after three quarters. The Profs kept a double-digit lead throughout the fourth to help cement the win.
Next up for Rowan is a matchup at DeSales on Wednesday, November 20th in a 6 p.m. tip.
