Women's Basketball Outlasted By Messiah In Overtime, 87-81

Grantham, PA – Four quarters were not enough as host Messiah was able to earn an 87-81 win over Nazareth in the championship game on Saturday of the Messiah Tournament. With the loss, Nazareth falls to 1-1, while Messiah moves to 2-0.
 

How it Happened: 

  • Nazareth trailed by two points after a quarter of play, but the score was tied at 29 at the half
  • The Golden Flyers trailed by as many as nine in the fourth quarter at the 2:35 mark before storming back
  • Molly Benetti hit four-straight free throws, followed by a Kiara Anglin bucket to pull within 70-67 with 1:27 to play
  • Anglin eventually tied the game at 71 with :28 seconds to play and the Falcons missed a 3-pointer as time expired.
  • The Golden Flyers never led in the overtime frame but remained within six points until the end

Game Notes:

  • Benetti was 9-for-21 for 23 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double
  • Katie MacLachlan neared a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds
  • Madalyn Kelly added 14 points and four assists
  • Kiara Anglin was good for 12 points and nine rebounds
