REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (2-0) upset No. 25 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) 77-55 Saturday evening inside Currier Gym.
The first half featured zero double-digit leads, but in the opening three minutes of the third quarter Colbi Zorich found Leila Hosn for a jumper and Carly Hicks converted on a free throw for a 34-24 lead as they held the Crusaders scoreless for more than three minutes to begin the half.
UMHB, though, responded to a 12-point deficit by scoring 16 of the final 25 points of the third quarter and the two teams went into the final quarter separated by five points, 45-40.
AJ Wick started the scoring in the fourth with two free throws. She then made a jumper on the fastbreak, and she assisted Alex Facelo on another fastbreak to make it a 10-point lead, 52-42.
After the Crusaders made it a single-digit game at the 7:03 mark, Hosn drew a foul and made two free throws with 6:47 to play as the Bulldogs led by double figures the remainder of the game.
Wick quietly had 20 points and nine rebounds thanks to a 12-point and three-rebound fourth quarter. Andrea Perkins made three threes and had 13 points. Facelo finished with five threes for all 15 of her points. Hosn added 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Freshman Teagan McIlroy had five points, three rebounds, and eight assists.
Redlands plays game three of five-straight at home on Monday, November 24 at 7 p.m. against George Fox University.
