Big fourth quarter leads Redlands Women's Basketball past Chapman in SCIAC opener

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (3-1, 1-0) defeated Chapman University 75-57 in their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener Wednesday evening inside Currier Gym.

The Bulldogs got out to a quick five-point lead, 7-2, thanks to points from Teagan McIlroy, Colbi Zorich, and Leila Hosn. They maintained that lead at the end of the first 10 minutes thanks to an Olivia McIntyre layup after an offensive rebound.

Redlands trailed for the first time at the 8:50 mark of the second. AJ Wick got the lead back 14 seconds later on a fastbreak off an assist from Alex Facelo. Chapman, though, scored five of the final seven points of the half and led by one, 31-30, at the break.

In the final two and a half minutes of the third quarter the Bulldogs turned a four-point deficit, 45-41, into a six-point lead, 51-45, after 30 minutes thanks to six points off two three pointers from Andrea Perkins.

McIlroy hit a jumper in the paint with 7:21 to play in the game as she gave Redlands their first double-digit lead of the game, 57-47. The lead was as large as 22 before they sealed the win, 75-57.

Wick nearly had a 20-20 game with 19 points and 17 rebounds. McIlroy added 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Zorich and McIntyre also scored in double figures with 15 and 10 points each.

The Bulldogs host University of California, Santa Cruz, Saturday at 1 p.m. in their final home non-conference game of the season.
