Redlands Women's Basketball uses big third quarter to defeat Montclair State in Puerto Rico

CAGUAS, Puerto Rico – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (6-1) won their second of two games at the Puerto Rico Clasico Thursday as they defeated Montclair State University (MSU), 65-47.

The Red Hawks held a six-point lead, 10-4, with less than five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Leila Hosn and AJ Wick, though, combined for four quick points as part of an 11-4 run that gave the Bulldogs a one-point lead, 15-14, after 10 minutes.

Teagan McIlroy and Carly Hicks had three total points in the first two minutes of the second quarter to give Redlands their largest lead of the game, 18-14.

In the final two minutes MSU closed the gap from five to two, 26-24, before Hosn found Andrea Perkins for a three that gave them a five-point halftime lead, 29-24.

Redlands broke open a competitive game in the third quarter when they took a six-point lead and extended it to 15 points over the final 3:48. Hosn, McIlroy, and Colbi Zorich had two points each while Olivia McIntyre had six points.

The Bulldogs led by double figures for the entire fourth quarter as they held the Red Hawks to 10 points on 30.77 percent shooting.

It was a balanced effort with 11 different Bulldogs scoring. McIntyre led the way with a career-high 14 points. Zorich and Hosn also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.

After an 11-day break, the Bulldogs will head to Las Vegas where they play two games against Wesleyan University and Bridgewater State University on December 29 and 30.
