Women’s Basketball Tops La Verne

La Verne, CA – Nazareth's women's basketball team finished their road trip to California with a 66-52 win against the University of La Verne Leopards. The Golden Flyers move to 7-3 while La Verne moves to 3-6.

How It Happened

  • The two teams started things off with a defensive battle, each going scoreless through nearly 3 minutes of play.

  • Kiara Anglin led the Golden Flyers to a 12-6 lead after one quarter with 8 points of her own.

  • The two teams found their rhythms in the second quarter, combining for 11 points in just over three minutes to start it off. Nazareth expanded their lead to 8 points (19-11) in that time, with buckets coming from three different Golden Flyers.

  • Physicality picked up as the game went on, with the two teams combining for 9 fouls in the second quarter. 

  • The pace remained high all the way into half time, sending Nazareth to the locker room with a 27-15 lead over the Leopards. 

  • Nazareth opened the second half on fire, powered by a 12-0 run through the first 4 minutes to extend their lead to 24 (39-15). Sarina McDowell led the offensive outburst with 6 points of her own. 

  • La Verne made their biggest push of the game in the last 6 minutes of the third quarter, outscoring Nazareth 16-10.

  • The Golden Flyers were narrowly outscored in a back-and-forth final quarter (21-17), but they persisted to a 66-52 victory.

  • Kiara Anglin notched a season-high 18 points. She added a season-high 14 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season.

  • Sarina McDowell picked up 2 steals and 9 rebounds to go along with a season-best 18 points.

  • Katie MacLachlan also had 18 points, accompanied by 12 rebounds and 5 assists; her second double-double of the season. 

  • Nazareth's largest lead of the game came in the third quarter; 24 points.
