Redlands Women's Basketball remains undefeated away from Currier after win at La Verne

LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (11-2, 4-1) put the game away early at the University of La Verne Wednesday evening as they outscored the Leopards by 16 points in the first half and 20 after three quarters during their 75-56 win.

In her return to action from injury, AJ Wick scored the first points of the game and Teagan McIlroy got an assist. Those were the first two of 10 unanswered points to begin the game. McIlroy had five of her own while Leila Hosn assisted Andrea Perkins on a fastbreak three.

The Leopards cut their deficit to four before Olivia McIntyre got into the paint in the final 10 seconds of the opening quarter to help the Bulldogs to an eight-point lead, 16-8, after 10 minutes of action.

Carly Hicks and Aliyah Anderson each made jumpers in the first 55 seconds of the second to give Redlands their largest lead of 12, 20-8.

The lead was then 14 with 4:18 remaining before a quick 4-0 La Verne run. McIlroy then scored five points in 16 seconds and Redlands would take a 16-point lead, 38-22, into the half.

In a low-scoring opening to the third quarter where the two sides combined for 10 points in just under seven minutes, Wick and Hosn each went on 4-0 runs which extended their lead to 24, 51-27, with 1:27 to play in the third.

In a final quarter where 37 percent of the total points were scored, the Bulldogs managed to lead by at least 17 and as many as 22.

Colbi Zorich opened the scoring for the Bulldogs and Monica Villanueva ended it with McIlroy leading the way with eight points across the final 10 minutes.

Wick returned to action with 13 points and seven rebounds. McIlroy had 20 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Hosn had a 12-point, seven-rebound evening.

Redlands plays at 4 p.m. on Saturday as they travel to face off with Whittier College.
