Redlands Women's Basketball dominates second and third quarters in win at Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's basketball team (14-4, 7-3) outscored Chapman University on the road by 18 in the second and third quarters of their 77-63 win Wednesday evening.

There were six lead changes in the first quarter with the Bulldogs leading by three, 4-1, after three minutes thanks to baskets by Leila Hosn and Colbi Zorich. The Panthers then came back and held a pair of four-point leads including with 1:19 to play. An Olivia McIntyre and one, though, cut the deficit to one after a quarter of play.

Down one to begin the second, Hosn made both free throws to spark a 19-7 run which lasted down to the 2:05 mark as they went from trailing by one to ahead by 11, 27-26. Teagan McIlroy had five points, McIntyre six, AJ Wick four, and Andrea Perkins two during the surge.

Chapman did, however, score the final four points of the half as the lead was cut to seven, 37-30, going into the break.

The Bulldogs did not concede for more than four minutes to begin the second half, during which their offense put 12 points on the scoreboard to push their advantage to 19, 49-30. Five different players scored during the run with a Hosn-assisted, Perkins three capping things off.

The closest the Panthers got the rest of the third was 16 and the lead after 30 minutes was 17, 60-43.

Aliyah Anderson got things started on the right foot in the fourth as she scored 10 seconds after the ball was inbounded, but Chapman quickly began a comeback attempt that cut the lead down to single digits, 62-53, with 6:15 still to play.

Wick, Anderson, and Hosn, however, then combined on a 7-1 run that pushed the lead back to five possessions, 69-54, with only 4:20 on the clock.

Hosn got the lead to 17 with 2:16 remaining as the Bulldogs got their second win in-a-row after a two-game losing streak.

Hosn had 20 points on 12 field goal attempts. She also had eight rebounds. Wick had a 15-point, 16-rebound night with four assists too. McIntyre and McIlroy had 13 and 10 points each as well.

Redlands will look to split their season series with a win at California Lutheran University (CLU) this Saturday on the road as they tipoff at 4 p.m.
