PELLA— It came down to the final second, but the Central College women's basketball team eked out a 62-60 victory over Simpson College Wednesday night.

The Dutch (10-12, 5-8 American Rivers Conference) and Storm (11-11, 7-6 conference) traded blows for 40 minutes, taking the lead from each other a combined 11 times.

Central took possession with 7.5 seconds following a missed layup by Simpson. Emily Naughton (junior, Indianola) hit a turnaround jumper in the paint with 0.1 seconds remaining. Simpson's inbounds pass was tipped away to seal the win.
Naughton's 12 points led the Dutch with CeCe Moore (junior, Waterloo, West HS) and Bailey Reding (senior, Grundy Center) also reaching double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Moore also had nine rebounds and two blocks.

The free throws and 3-pointers were key for Central. The Dutch were 12 of 13 from the line while also hitting eight 3-pointers. Kaitlyn Mumm (junior, Waukee, Des Moines Christian HS) had three triples while Maddie Backer (freshman, New Ulm, Minn.) and Jadyn Filling (senior, Ankeny) each had two.

Central has its final road trip of the regular season on Saturday, making the trip to Wartburg College for a 2 p.m. game.
