No. 8 Women’s Basketball Claimed 13th OAC Regular Season Title by Beating Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio - The No. 8 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace women's basketball team defeated the Heidelberg Student Princes by a score of 81-44 at Seiberling Gymnasium to claim sole possession of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title.

BW (21-2, 15-0 OAC) earned their third consecutive OAC regular season title and 13th in program history tonight. They will be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament next week. A 20-point first quarter kick started the BW offense as they dominated the Student Princes. Led by senior guard Leah Riley (Cincinnati/Sycamore) with 12 points and five assists, the Yellow Jackets now look to finish the regular season undefeated in conference play. 

BW Leaders (21-2, 15-0 OAC)

  • Riley led the Yellow Jackets in points with 12, while giving out five assists and adding two steals 
  • Senior Academic All-OAC forward Brooke Thompson (Maineville/Little Miami) led the team in rebounds with nine and blocks with four  
  • Junior forward Kayla Jones (Grove City) contributed two steals, while adding six points and five rebounds 
  • Senior guard Alyssa Miller (New Philadelphia) added three rebounds and five points 


Heidelberg Leaders (1-22, 0-14 OAC)

  • Olivia Nolting scored a team-leading 16 points 
  • Mya Jones added a steal while going 100% from the free throw line
  • Abby Tier added five points while adding an assist and a steal 


1st Quarter (20-4 BW)

  • Miller's free throw opened up the scoring for the Yellow Jackets 
  • BW began the matchup on a 10-0 run 
  • Riley totaled six points and two assists 


2nd Quarter (48-24 BW)

  • BW went 10-11 from the free throw line 
  • The Brown and Gold scored 11 points off of fast break opportunities 
  • Jones recorded two steals 


3rd Quarter (59-30 BW)

  • BW outrebounded the Student Princes 12-7 
  • Junior guard Taylor Bass (Strongsville) added a block
  • Senior guard Kaycie Badylak (Cincinnati/Archbishop McNicholas) sunk a three point bucket to further extend the BW lead 


4th Quarter (81-44)

  • BW outscored the Student Princes 22-14
  • Senior guard Ali Menendez (Hudson) added six points 
  • Izzy Kurka (Medina) and Sky Regan (Doylestown Chippewa) each gave out an assist

  • The No. 8 Yellow Jackets will conclude the regular season with an OAC matchup against Wilmington College on Saturday, February 21 at 4 p.m. at Fred Razik Arena.
