Wabash rode a 20-1 scoring run at the end of the first half and start of the second in a dominating 60-45 victory in the championship game of the Pete Thorn Tournament over No. 2 Randolph-Macon Saturday afternoon.
Wes Smith scored a game-high 27 for Wabash (6-0) and added nine rebounds to cap a 61-point tournament to help the Little Giants to the win. Randolph-Macon fell to 4-1.
No. 11 St. Mary's handed No. 7 Franklin and Marshall its first loss of the season, sprinting out to a 60-31 halftime lead and coasting to a 96-77 victory. Alex Franz scored 21 and had five assists for the Seahawks in the win.
Sixth-ranked Wooster scored a season-low 67 points but used a 37-17 rebounding advantage to beat Carnegie Mellon 67-53. No. 24 Augustana held No. 14 Anderson scoreless for eight consecutive possessions down the stretch Saturday, outscoring the Ravens 8-2 over the final 2:48 to pull out a 74-69 win. Junior Oren Bloom knocked down a three-pointer as time expired as MSOE knocked off UW-Oshkosh 65-62 on the road. Senior Austin Meier made a steal with five seconds left then assisted on Bloom's game-winning basket.
