Coe avenges Simpson loss

Sarah Anciaux scored a game-high 23 points and Coe made three of four free throws in the final 10 seconds as the No. 25 Kohawks beat Simpson 81-79 in the battle for first place in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Coe avenged a 78-63 home loss from early December and grabbed a share of the top spot in the standings, improving to 19-2 overall. It was Coe's first win at Simpson on program history.

No. 4 Hope avenged its earlier one-point loss to archrival Calvin in a big way, crushing the No. 20 Knights 70-48. The Knights had 34 turnovers, 23 of them on Hope steals. Erika Bruinsma, who was scoreless in the first Hope-Calvin game, had 14 points for the Flying Dutch this afternoon.

Top-ranked Thomas More survived a scare, trailing 33-25 at the half before bouncing back in the final 20 minutes to pull away from Washington and Jefferson 61-48. The Saints took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Devin Beasley with 8:32 left, sparking a 16-0 run to seal the game.

UW-River Falls upset No. 11 UW-Whitewater 73-69 in overtime. Trailing by as many as 10 points in the first half, the Falcons took back momentum to cut the deficit to 33-29. Maranda Dohrn finished with 17 points and 19 boards for UW-River Falls in the win.

Tiffany Patrick had 23 points and 11 rebounds as No. 3 Kean bounced back from a midweek loss to defeat Rowan 81-66. Lauren Ruhl, Liz Borgia, Tierney Hiltz and Suzie Noyes each reached double figures for No. 13 Lebanon Valley, which won its 15th consecutive game, defeating Widener 72-63.

Colby dealt No. 8 Williams its seond loss of the weekend 85-71. The White Mules took the lead for good with a 15-3 run midway through the second half. Colby pushed the lead as high as 20 points in the second half. The White Mules hit seven of its eight three-pointers while the Ephs shot five for 22. Colby and Williams are now tied for second in the NESCAC, two games behind Amherst who beat Bates 74-62.

Ellie Pearson had 20 points and 15 rebounds for No. 15 DePauw at Centre where the Tigers won 67-54. Swarthmore's Kathryn Stockbower set a new NCAA Division III record for double-doubles in a career by scoring 18 and grabbing 10 rebounds. Coincidentally, Stockbower did it against the team whose alumna held the record, Johns Hopkins. Former Blue Jay Julie Anderson had 79 double-doubles in her career. Johns Hopkins won the game 62-50.

Baldwin-Wallace defeated Muskingum 75-50 to snap a two-game losing streak and remain tied for first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The co-leaders, No. 22 Mount Union, beat Wilmington 80-65 behind Amanda Rose's 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Mount St. Mary is on the verge of another Skyline Conference regular season title after the Knights beat second place Farmingdale State 49-45. The Knights swept the regular season series and have a three game lead with four conference games left.

Neumann dropped its first CSAC contest of the season at Gwynedd-Mercy 73-67. Ithaca remained undefeated in the Empire 8 with a win against Utica 75-61. Geneseo State did the same by winning at Plattsburgh State 77-48. Felicia Brown hit a baseline jumper as time expired to lift Chatham past Westminster (Pa.) 57-55. Jocelyn Riordan scored 25 of her 32 points after halftime as Puget Sound went to overtime for the second consecutive game, beating Whitman 81-78. Whitman also needed an extra period for the second night in a row.
