Connie Urmanski scored 14 of her 16 points in the second half and Hillary Peterson added 16 of her own as UW-Superior improved to a program-best 15-3 overall with a 65-59 win against UW-Platteville. The Yellowjackets are 7-2 and in the first-place mix in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

UW-Superior held on as Platteville (5-13) missed six free throws in the second half, including its last four of the game. Superior was 21-for-24 from the line for the game. UW-Stevens Point beat UW-River Falls to remain tied with Superior for first in the WIAC standings, with UW-Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh each a half-game behind.

New Paltz State remained unbeaten, defeating Potsdam State 71-55 to improve to 14-0, 8-0 in the SUNYAC. Alyssa Gratien scored 15 to lead the Hawks in a sloppy game where New Paltz turned the ball over 22 times and 13 of its rebounds were team rebounds.

No. 21 Ferrum bounced back from its first conference loss of the season and sent No. 16 Christopher Newport to its second in a row, defeating the Captains 65-55. Kylene Culler, Jacole Hairston and Kayla Goins each scored a team-high 12 for Ferrum in the win, with Culler adding a team-high 12 rebounds. It's the second consecutive loss for CNU after it started the season with 13 consecutive victories.

No. 19 Cornell rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to tie St. Norbert at 42-42 with 3:37 left, but couldn't get over the top as Tasha Giese hit a 3-pointer with the shot clock running down and the Green Knights held on for a 47-44 win. Krista Hawkinson led St. Norbert with 18 points.

Haley Jordan and Jordan Grant scored 18 points apiece as No. 13 Southern Maine clinched the best start in the program's history by defeating Eastern Connecticut 69-55. The Huskies are 17-0 for the first time.

Elsewhere, the usual cruising to victory among the top teams in Division III women's basketball. Top-ranked DePauw won its 17th consecutive game, winning 67-49 at Oberlin as Savannah Trees scored 17 and Alex Gasaway posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. No. 2 Calvin and No. 3 Hope rolled past Rochester College and Trine, respectively. Calvin got 22 and 12 from Carissa Verkaik, including Verkaik's 2,000th career point. Rolling was the name of the game for No. 5 Messiah, No. 6 Tufts and No. 11 Montclair State as well.

No. 4 Amherst led by double digits for most of the second half before Colby scored eight of the last nine points to make it look close in a 69-60 defeat. No. 10 Thomas More won its 13th consecutive game, defeating Grove City 61-35 behind 13 points and eight assists from Allison Long. No. 12 St. Thomas sprinted out to a 17-0 lead and had little trouble with St. Catherine in a 76-41 win. 

No. 23 George Fox cruised past Pacific Lutheran 59-34 to move into a tie for first in the Northwest Conference race and set up a showdown next Friday with Lewis and Clark for sole possession of the top spot.

Katarina Owunna had a monster game (17 points, 15 rebounds) as No. 18 Catholic defeated Scranton 66-50. No. 20 Babson bounced back from its midweek loss to Williams by rolling Coast Guard 75-36. Sarah Collins became the program's fifth player with 1,000 rebounds, recording 11 boards, while the team won its 75th consecutive NEWMAC contest.

Pitt-Bradford's Geena Sneeringer recorded a triple-double, with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 11 steals in a 74-38 rout of Penn State-Altoona. UPB was credited with 18 steals on 26 Altoona turnovers. Jordan Sammons had 23 points and 17 rebounds as Hamline outlasted Carleton 71-63.

Trinity (Texas) beat Southwestern 86-74 in a battle of SCAC unbeatens. Anecia Richardson had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers, who held the Pirates to 27 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.

Sarah Bingea scored 21 points and had 14 rebounds, but it was Trisha Van Dusseldorp who came up big with two 3-pointers in overtime and UW-La Crosse was 6-for-6 from the foul line in the extra session as the Eagles beat UW-Eau Claire 58-51. Eau Claire (9-9, 4-5) hosts UW-Superior on Wednesday night.
