Knights Edge Griffins in Wire-to-Wire AEC Men's Basketball Championship
February 28, 2026Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/28/2026) - From beginning to end the 2025-2026 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men's Basketball Championship delivered in every way as the Voices of Gwynedd Mercy University began the afternoon with a wonderful rendition of the National Anthem and the student-athletes from #4 Neumann University (19-9) and #2 Gwynedd Mercy University (19-8) fiercely competed from tip-off til final buzzer. In the end, the Knights benefited from some late calls and converted on their following chances at the free throw line to edge the Griffins in a 66-65 conclusion. The Red and Gold trailed 37-31 (0:34) at intermission, but returned to the court determined. The later period was scoreless for the first couple minutes, but big buckets from sophomore guard Bruce Smith (Philadelphia, Pa.) (48-47, 12:25) and senior guard D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.) (11:39, 10:44) gave the Griffins a five-point lead; 52-47 (10:44), midway through. Gwynedd Mercy University held their last lead, 65-63, with 2:03 remaining on the clock. In those final two minutes, two reviewed plays went Neumann University's way, leading to a game-winning and-one for the Knights. Off the bench, junior guard Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.) led four Griffins in double figures with 20 points; he also recorded a team-high seven rebounds, an assist, and a steal. -
Griffins Spin Cyclones, Punch Ticket to Atlantic East Conference Championship
February 26, 2026Gwynedd Valley, Pa. – (2/26/26) - #2 Gwynedd Mercy University (19-7) earned their spot in the 2025-2026 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) Men's Basketball Championship with a commanding 96-77 semifinal victory over #3 Centenary University (11-15). While the Red and Gold held the lead for most of the game, a dominate second half performance pushed them past the Cyclones with ease. Senior guard Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.) led all scorers with 28 points, including the first-half layup that put the Griffins in the lead (18-16, 10:36) and provided them with a momentum they never lost. Graduate guard Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.) followed with 24 points thanks six three-pointers (6-of-10, .600), while senior guard D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.) added a dozen (12) second-half points, six assists, seven rebounds, and a steal. -
Red and Gold Make Senior Day Statement With 84-58 Victory over Eagles
February 21, 2026Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/21/2026) - Gwynedd Mercy University (18-7, 11-3) capped their 2025-2026 regular season by celebrating six seniors with an 84-58 onslaught victory over Saint Elizabeth University (7-18, 1-13). Before the final tip-off of the regular season the Griffins recognized seniors; guard D.J. Johnson (Norristown, Pa.), guard Devin Benson (Williamstown, N.J.), guard Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.), guard Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.), guard Jake Okon (Yonkers, N.Y.), and forward Dashon Lewis (Philadelphia, Pa.) for their time and dedication to the men's basketball program. The senior class contributed across the board with 56 of the Griffins' 84 points, 30 of their 51 rebounds, and 14 of their 16 assists. -

The Griffins entered halftime with a seven-point lead, 33-26 (0:08), thanks to a jumper from senior guard Devin Benson (Williamstown, N.J.) (32-26, 0:08). Benson kept his hot hand in the second half, where graduate guard Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.) helped him shoot the Gwynedd Mercy through a 65-65 (0:08) regulation, and senior guard Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.) facilitated overtime glory. -

Rivalry Rich, Knights Edge Griffins in AEC Clash
January 17, 2026Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (1/17/2026) - The rivalry between Gwynedd Mercy University (10-5, 3-1) and Neumann University (11-4, 3-1) remained hot as the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) foes faced off for the first time this season at the Griffin Complex. The Red and Gold led early, 8-3 (17:20), but ultimately trailed the Knights by as many as eight points, 30-22 (6:34), before scoring the final bucket of the first half; 38-38 (0:16). In the second half, three pointers from junior guards Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.), 50-48 (12:44), and Zaiyan Keys (Chichester, Pa.), 58-56 (8:29), gave the Griffins the led on two separate occasions, but neither advantage was long-lived as a Neumann University used slight advantages in rebounding (41-37), points in the paint (30-24), and second-chance points (12-8) to defeat Gwynedd Mercy University by a narrow 72-68 margin. The Griffins led for a majority of the contest and recovered from the Pacers' brief second-half advantage behind the aggressive play of junior guard Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.); he converted a late three-point play to secure a 61-60 led with 10:28 to play. He then found sophomore forward Kelvin Crawford (Darby, Pa.) for another and-one, 64-60 (9:43), that spurred the Red and Gold for their eventual five-point triumph. Senior guard D.J. Smith finished the affair with a game-high 20 points, three rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals. The Griffins' senior captains, D.J. A late Nittany Lion push made the halftime spread look competitive; 39-33 (0:59), but the second half was a different story as a hot-handed Harris helped the Griffins put the contest out of reach early in an 86-70 conclusion. It was junior guard Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.) who sparked the Red and Gold and he continued to lead them through a second half that saw the Griffins tie the game on a jumper by sophomore guard Bruce Smith (Philadelphia, Pa.) just past the seven-minute mark, 57-57 (6:50), and grab a three-point lead on a much-needed three-point basket from graduate guard Dylan Harris (Bloomsburg, Pa.); 69-66 (3:33). Unfortunately, the Golden Wolves forced an overtime frame where an 81-76 (2:38) Griffin perch was not enough as the visitors used a couple clutch three-point baskets (1:54, 0:38) to slingshot for an eventual 88-84 (0:06) win. -
Hot First Half Brings Victory over Valley Forge
November 22, 2025Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (11/22/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (5-1) was on their mark in the first half of today's 93-85 victory at the University of Valley Forge as the Griffins hit 6-of-11 (.545) from three-point range and found their way to the free throw line regularly - 10-of-15 (.667) - en route to a 44-36 halftime lead. After intermission, the Red and Gold continued to hit the three-point basket - 6-of-13 (.462) - using perimeter success to grow their lead to as many as 20 points (64-44, 13:46) before holding off several Patriot rallies in the eight-point conclusion. Gwynedd Mercy University was led by another career performance from senior guard Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.) as the captain led four Griffins in double figures with 34 points, while commanding the court with four rebounds, four assists, and five steals. -

February 21, 2025Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/21/2025) - Even though Neumann University (18-7, 9-3) held the league's leading scorer - graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.) - to just two points in the first half, Gwynedd Mercy University (21-4, 9-3) still led the Knights at intermission; 39-33 (2:13). In the second half, Summers found his touch as he hit 9-of-11 (.818) from the field and both of his free throws (2-of-2, 1.000), while grabbing four rebounds, and providing two assists in an 82-78 (0:18) Atlantic East Conference (AEC) regular-season finale. Summers finished with 23 points, but he was greatly supported by the first-half performances of senior forward Dom Thomas (Mullica Hill, N.J.) and sophomore forward Travon Mack (Coatesville, Pa.); their superb interior defense combined to produce 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal during the opening frame. -

Senior guard Mike Marable (Philadelphia, Pa.) did all he could to keep the Griffins in contention, but an 8-of-15 (.533) showing at the free throw line and a 38-24 Cyclones rebounding advantage led to the upset. The Griffins held the lead for most of the first half, but faced a 41-37 (2:01) halftime deficit before wearing down the Saints down with solid defense (Marymount University: 23-of-52, .442 FG), offensive rebounds (13), and plenty of point points in the paint (42). Graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.) was Gwynedd Mercy University's leading scorer with 23 points, while senior guard Mike Marable (Philadelphia, Pa.) headlined a united rebounding effort with eight. -

The Red and Gold took their first lead of the Atlantic East Conference (AEC) battle on a layup from graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.) with 9:15 (21-20) remaining in the first half, but trailed Marywood University at halftime; 32-33 (0:06). In the second half, the Pacers mounted an 11-point lead, 49-38 (14:45), before Gwynedd Mercy University dug themselves out of another hole. This time, the Griffins fed off the play of junior guards, Jalen Snead (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Mazen Sayed (Chichester, Pa.) to rally for an eventual 77-68 (0:55) league victory. Red and Gold Honors Senior Class, Sacks Cannoneers for AEC Treasure
February 01, 2025Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - (2/1/2025) - Gwynedd Mercy University (17-3, 5-2) honored four signature seniors before bagging a 90-73 Atlantic East Conference (AEC) victory over Pratt Instiutute. It was the Griffins second straight win over the league's newcomer as the Red and Gold defeated the Cannoneers by a 79-60 measure in Tuesday's (Jan. 28) meeting in Brooklyn, New York. Prior to today's affair, Gwynedd Mercy University Athletics recognized the collegiate careers of senior guard Mike Marable (Philadelphia, Pa.), senior guard Aquil Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.), graduate guard Shawn Summers Jr. (Montclair, N.J.), and senior forward Dom Thomas (Mullica Hill, N.J.). Three of the four Red and Gold seniors scored at least 10 points in the win; Stewart led with 20 points. Marable netted 19, and Summers added 14 more. In recognition of Coaches Versus Cancer, the Pratt Institute and Gwynedd Mercy University coaching staffs wore sneakers in National solidarity to raise Cancer awareness. -
Griffins Win First of Back-to-Back AEC Contests Versus Cannoneers
January 28, 2025Brooklyn, N.Y. - (1/28/2025) - In the first-ever and first of back-to-back Atlantic East Conference (AEC) contests versus league newcomer Pratt Institute (0-18, 0-6), Gywnedd Mercy University (16-3, 4-2) forced 31 Cannoneers turnovers en route to a 76-60 victory. The Red and Gold never trailed Pratt Institute as they scored first basket of the game, 2-0 (19:40), led all the way to a 39-30 (0:29) halftime spread, and gave the home team little chance at a comeback in a 16-point win. Senior guard Aquil Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Griffins with 23 points; he was 9-of-17 (.529) from the floor with three three-point baskets (3-of-7, .429) and a couple of free throws (2-of-2, 1.000) in addition to two rebounds, three assists, and six of the Griffins' 23 steals.
